1.) Introduction
Welcome to my very first (and probably only) guide for video games! My name is Rebel40000, and I will, unfortunately for most of you, your host! So let's begin with this little trip through Hell and back, shall we? Heheheheh...
Megaman X2 (MMX2), is the second installment of the Megaman X series made by Capcom, and also the second game for the entire MM world period. Not only did it feature enhanced music and better replay value, but it also had the first actual use of a plot, with real dialog that the series first game lacked. It is arguably the best MMX game out there.
Now all chat put aside, let's get started with more important things, shall we?
2.) Story
(Taken from the game)
It's been six months since the destruction of Sigma, and little has changed. Though the revolt started by Sigma is over, Megaman X and the new generation of Maverick Hunters have yet to destroy the rest of Sigma's followers.
Using information led by Dr. Cain, Megaman X and the rest of the Hunters have tracked the last of the Mavericks at an abandoned reploid factory. There, they hope to wipe out the last of the resistance.
Little do they suspect that real war is about to begin...

3.) Items/Weapons
Items:
Energy Refill- Refills any lost life energy.
Small Energy Refill- Refills any lost life energy... but in smaller qauntities.
Weapon Refill- Refills lost weapon energy. If you don't have a weapon selected, it will go to whatever weapon has the least energy.
Small Weapon Refill- The same as the weapon refill except you get less weapon energy...
Sub-Tanks- Collect these to take any extra energy refills and sace them for later.
Second Armor Parts- Different capsules that give you different peices of armor. Collect all four for greater power!
Heart Container- One in each of the eight Maverick stages. Increases your maximum health.
Extra Life- Earns you one more life. May be found as enemy items or strewn throughout the level.
Weapons:
Silk Shot (Get from Morph Moth)- Takes a bundle of garbage and fires it at opponents. Splits on contact. May attract refill items.
Crystal Hunter (Get from Crystal Snail)- Fires a liquid-like crystal that encases most enemies into platforms. May change weather conditions.
Spin Wheel (Get from Wheel Gator)- Creates a spinning wheel (who'da thunk?) that travels along the ground and may break some objects.
Sonic Slicer (Get from Overdrive Ostrich)- Releases dangerous sonic blasts that ricochets off walls.
Speed Burner (Get from Flame Stag)- Creates highspeed blasts of fire that can travel great distances. May change weather conditions.
Magnet Mines (Get from Magna Centipede)- Sends off a small mine that can be moved up or down and attaches itself to walls/floors/ceilings and then explodes.
Strike Chain (Get from Wire Sponge)- Shoots a short-range chain that attaches itself to walls and pulls you forward and grabs different items.
Bubble Splash (Get from Bubble Crab)- Fires rainbow colored bubbles that always go upwards, more so underwater. May change weather conditions.
Giga Crush (Get from Body Armor Capsule)- Use energy that's absorbed through different kinds of damage, and sends it back out, destroying all enemies on screen.
Radar Sensor (Get from Helmet Armor Capsule)- Detects secret areas that can be discovered using special weapons or by walking through fake walls/floors.
Dragon Fist (Get from Secret Armor Capsule)- Performs Dragon Fist from the Street Fighter games that one-hit kills every enemy except the final boss. (Not a selectable weapon)

5.) Characters
a. Good Guys
Megaman X: The main character of the X series, Megaman X was the very first robot of his kind: The ability to think, choose, and make his own decisions. X has a strong sense of justice, but deep down he hates fighting and would rather find more peaceful ways to solve global problems than resorting to fighting.
Zero: A mysterious Reploid with no past. He died near the end of X1, but apparently his body is still intact...
Dr. Cain: The man responsible for finding and awakening X and creating the Reploids. He is a very dedicated scientist but not much else is known about him.
Dr. Thomas Light: Creator of Megaman X, Dr. Light had also created Megaman, guardian of the world back in the year 20XX. He is assumed dead now, but appears in armor capsules as a hologram to give X information about the enhancements within.
b. Bad Guys
Agile: Leader of the infamous X-Hunters. He is quick and to the point.
Serges: The brains behind the X-Hunters. Kind of scrawny, he uses machines that he builds to fight.
Violen: The muscle of the X-Hunters. Big, brawny, and a hard nut to crack.
Sigma: The leader of the Mavericks. He was presumed dead after X1, but apparently he's come back, and he's bigger and badder than before...
6.) Walkthrough
-Intro Level
Boss: CP-0
The Intro Level is sorta like a practice level for all of those who are new to the series. Easy enemies, with probably the easiest MM boss ever. Starting off, you'll see X and another Hunter riding on a bike, all the while dodging enemy fire. The little Hunter that was near you will go up in smokes, but don't let that deter you. X will then hop his bike and kamikaze it into a Maverick. Charge up your X-Buster, then fire like there's no tomorrow to easily destroy the guard. Then enter the building.
Inside, you'll come across multiple screwdriver-like enemies that can be taken out with a simple charge shot, and enemies that clamp down to the ground to block your progress that don't fight back at all. After a few rows of these, you'll come across the strange looking flying type enemies. Take them out with a charge shot. You'll then come across a Reploid creator. Ignore the Mavericks being made and take out the ones that are attacking. You'll then come across a metal claw that will grab you when you get close to it. Use it to swing across the other side. Then wall-kick up the wall and climb the ladder to reach an enemy who will fly with very top of the metal walls and try to crush you. Wall-kick to the very top and take him out with another charge shot (you'll be using this charge thing a lot, if haven't all ready noticed ^_^), continue walking down the corridor until you see a huge drop in. Drop down and prepare to fight the intro boss...
BOSS: CP-0
Attacks: Mace, Jumping
Weakness: X-Buster
Easiest. Boss. Ever. It will walk around and try and hit you with its mace-like hands, but they're easy to avoid. It'll also hop around, but it will really only hurt you if you're at the very bottom of the arena (which you shouldn't, by the way). To beat him just stand still and fire about three or four charge shots to the head to kill him.
Now that the intro is out of the way, the Stage Select has been unlocked. Can anyone say "Yay?"
All right we have eight stages to choose from, and each one has a challenging boss at the end, as well as some good must-have items. No matter what stage you select, your going to have to backtrack. Rookies might want to start off with Wire Sponge, but if you're like me and you want to see X with his full armor before you beat all of the Mavericks, then take on Wheel Gator first. I'll be doing this with both Buster and the weapons, so don't feel bad no matter who you choose. :)
-Dinosaur Tank Stage
Boss: Wheel Gator
All right, the whole action here takes place on a moving tank plowing through the middle of a city. Go right and you should see a weird looking machine that spits out some flying enemies. In order to stop the onslaught, destroy the machine by standing on the slant, then continue forward.
Up ahead you'll see some triceratops-like tank enemies, but you can easily plow through 'em. Continue on and drop down a whole and you'll see rows of spikes. DON'T TOUCH THEM!! You'll automatically die if you do. Instead, jump onto the platforms, which will change direction everytime you jump on it. Use these to get past the spikes, and then you'll run into two Disk Boys. Their pretty much invincible until you blast them with a charge shot, which will cause their shields to go flying, leaving them open for attacks. Drop down again, and you'll see more of those tank enemies, then drop down again.
When you drop down again, you'll see a Ride Armor. Get in, and punch your way through the next room! Once you do, drop down the hole and you'll be in the outside, but there are quite a few annoying enemies. The tanks, and some enemy Ride Armors. Fight to the finish, since you don't take any damage while your inside of one (though it will eventually explode if it takes too much damage). Then you'll come across some stairs. Since your armor is to bulky for climbing, jump out (by pressing up and jumping) and continue on up.
A short while later you'll stumble upon another movable platform that goes up, followed by a Disk Boy and a hallway lined with spikes. Destroy the Boy, if you can, and jump off into a clearing when you get the chance. Then hop on another platform and take out the flying enemies and the Disk Boy at the very end, and jump on another one going up, lined with spikes as well. Go up and you'll see to more Boys, and then you'll see a ledge. Jump on it, and continue to the left. You'll see another Disk Boy, take him out and continue up (via walk-kick), and go outside.
Outside, you'll run into more flying enemies and tanks, continue on to as low as you go, taking out enemies and/or dodging them, until you go back inside again. Inside, you'll find a giant robot guarding the door which leads to the boss, so dodge the attacks as best as you can and take him out with some charge shots. Then go through the double doors to reach the boss of the Dinosaur Tank stage...
BOSS: WHEEL GATOR
Attacks: Spin Wheel, Biting, Drilling
Weakness: Strike Chain
Wheel Gator is a robotic alligator who's arena is covered with an oil-like substance. He occasionally goes under it to hide and also attack, and while he's under there he is invincible to all attacks. Follow the recommendations to put him out of commission for good.
With the X-Buster:
If you are using the buster on him, wait until he goes under the oil, then wall kick to the top of the nearest wall and charge your buster. While waiting for him to come out, a Spin Wheel will pop out in an attempt to hit you. Quickly dash-jump off the wall and climb back up. Occasionally, a second wheel will come up, but it's also fairly easy to dodge it. Make sure you are not on the floor, since Gator will come out in an attempt to grab you with his mouth. If he does, jam the buttons to break free.
After Gator pops out of the oil, jump off the wall and go to the opposite end of the room and let loose a charge shot. If he goes back under, repeat the process. If not, he'll either 1. Fire off two spin wheels, or 2. Turn into a giant drill and create a marking in the wall. Don't touch the marking! If you do you will take damage and you may also fall off the wall. Always fire a charge shot at Gator when you have the chance. Repeat this several times and you'll get him for good.
With the Strike Chain:
Technically speaking, the fight is a lot longer with the weakness in my humble opinion (unless you got the Arm Upgrade from the armor capsules). When Gator pops out of the oil, drop down and strike him with the chain (Heh, get it? Strike Chain? ...Never mind.). He'll quickly go back down. If he grabs you with his mouth, jam the buttons to break free. He'll reappear in the middle shortly afterwards. Repeat this simple (but long, since the weapon is weak) process to finish him off.
-Deep-Sea Base Stage
Boss: Bubble Crab
You'll start off in what appears to be a cove of some sort, filled with a couple of Bat Bones (the only enemy which returns from X1). Take them out, and dash-jump to the other side to find an extra-life behind some blocks. Switch to the Spin Wheel to break them and grab it. Then go back and drop down into the watery depths...
When you hit the bottom, you'll see a few robotic fish, but they only require one normal shot to go down. Also don't worry about oxygen; your a robot. Drop down another hole and you'll come across the mini-boss.
MINI-BOSS: FISHMARINE
Attacks: Mines, Missiles, Radar Beam
The Fishmarine is optional to beat, but it does get quite annoying throughout the level. You also need to beat it in order to fight the X-Hunter, if there is one. It has six weak spots, and you have to destroy five to make it go down. First, charge your buster and destroy the the tail with multiple shots, then attack the lower fin. Then attack the the little dome thing to stop the radar from continually attacking you. Then focus either on the face, or the missile pack and the top fin to destroy it.
By the time you destroy the bottom fin the Fishmarine will probably start moving downwards, but instead of following it, move upwards by wall-kicking and when you reach an alcove, dash-jump to the opposite side. You'll stumble upon some platforms which will take you to a heart container.
Throughout the level you'll see some electric jellyfish (which are robots, as the Fishmarine's flashlight points out), but they, like the rest, are fairly easy. Continuing on you'll stumble upon a door. Go through it. The water will drain and you will be in a building of some sort. When you go through the next one, wall-kick on up while watching out for the wall climbing and the screwdriver enemies. At the very top you'll reach the boss room.
BOSS: BUBBLE CRAB
Attacks: Bubble Splash, Bubble Shield, Mini Crabs, Energy Pincers
Weakness: Spin Wheel
Bubble Crab likes to put up a shield to block your attacks, but it eventually gives, especially after he does his Energy Pincers. Also, the water level in the arena changes periodically, and the lower it is, the less mobility Crab will have.
With Spin Wheel:
One shot with the weakness and Crab's Bubble Shield will pop instantly. The only problem is that it travels along the ground, and he jumps a lot, so you'll have to usually shove it right in his face. Jump over him when he gets to close (via dash-jump), but be careful of his Energy Pincers. He'll also fire his Splash Bubbles at you, but if your above water, you'll be okay. Also watch out for the mini crabs he send out at you. There isn't really a strategy for him, unlike most bosses, so be careful.
With X-Buster:
It's pretty much the same, except this time it'll take more shots to break his Bubble Shield. Just hit him with a charge shot whenever he doesn't have his shield up and you'll win. Also, since you cannot cancel his attacks as easily as before, he has a tendency to use the Bubble Splash and the Mini Crabs far more often. Be careful at the end of the fight (with and without the weakness) as he may release a barrage of Mini Crabs to distract you.
If this is your second Maverick that you have defeated, then you should see a cutscene with the X-Hunters. Congrats, you have just unlocked a new (side) mission!
You will now see the three X-Hunters, Agile, Serges, and Violen, appear on the Stage Select screen. They will randomly go to different levels, as long as the Maverick in charge there hasn't all ready been destroyed. If you defeat the Maverick without defeating the Hunter, he will leave and not return. Collecting Zero's parts is not necessary, but it does help in the end. For information on how to beat the X-Hunters skip passed the section with Wire Sponge.
-Volcanic Zone Stage
Boss: Flame Stag
When you get control of your character, go to the right and wall-kick on up. You'll come across a robotic flying beetle that will try and and destroy you by ramming itself into the the wall. When it does that, jump off and land on the flat part of its body and let it carry you up. When you reach the ledge on the left, jump off and grab the Sub-Tank, then jump off and let the beetle ram itself into the thin part of the wall, utterly destroying it.
Continue onwards, destroying enemies as you go, and then you'll reach a part where the lava beneath you is quickly rising. You better move it! Quickly wall-kick, but stop when you see the enemy that clamps itself to the floor, destroy it, and grab the energy increaser (note you may die doing this once or twice), and when you reach the top get out of the way before the lava blasts on out! You'll then see multiple stone pillars, clamber onto them, but they are unstable and will quickly sink. You'll then come across many openings and two more robotic beetles. Destroy them by letting them ram into the weak parts of the wall and then continue on up to a metallic door. If one of the X-Hunters are in this level, enter it to fight. If not, go back down to deal with more stone pillars...
After the fight (or pillars), you'll come across a pathway going up, with multiple gas cans embedded in the walls. You'll then see some strange robots with fire coming out of there tails, causing the cans to spray out fire instead of gas. Quickly take them out, but move carefully until you get outside again and to another door.
BOSS: FLAME STAG
Attacks: Speed Burner, Blaze Dash, Wall-Kick, Fire Punch
Weakness: Splash Bubble
With Bubble Splash:
>
Stag will automatically climb up the walls when the battle starts, but will come back down in a matter of seconds. When he does, hit him with the Splash Bubble and knock him back. He'll then retaliate by performing two Fire Punches. Jump over the first one and hit him with another Splash. Repeat the process. Easy.
With the X-Buster:
Coming soon!
-Robot Junkyard Stage
Boss: Morph Moth
This place is filled with junk. You'll come across multiple robots hanging from lampposts, but they'll come down and attack if you get close enough. Attack them from a distance to put them out. Then you'll see a Disk Boy. Destroy him and move on. You'll see more hanging robots. After a while you'll come across a ledge. Use the Spin Wheel on top of the ledge to reveal a secret room with an Armor Capsule (yay, first one! ^_^) You'll see Dr. Light and he'll give you the lowdown. Enter it to get the new Body Armor and the Giga Crush, a very useful (not really) item. Leave the room.
When you go back up, continue dealing with hanging robots and then you'll see a giant robot covered in armor. Charge and fire rapidly to destroy him without having to deal with his annoying recovering abilities. Moving onward you'll see a few Disk Boys on platforms, destroy them as you go and be sure to get the extra-life. You'll see two more hanging robots and then you'll find the mini-boss.
MINI-BOSS: ROBOT INSECT
Attacks: Throwing Garbage, Jumping, Flying
The robot insect will break out of a glass case and jump inside of a decrepit, old robot. When it does, attack the stomach. It only has two attacks, jumping and firing garbage. When you destroy the robot, the insect will fly out so go and attack with charge shots. Be quick: it will eventually find another body to inhabit.
After defeating the robot insect you'll come across a variation of the the same 'bot, a green insect that latches onto your head and will make you either jump, dash, or fire over and over. Destroy it before it does so. When your going down the ladder, you'll see a Disk Boy on a ledge. Wall-kick up to him and destroy him (his back will be facing you) to reach a secret area which leads to an X-Hunter battle (If the Hunter is in the stage).
Continue going down and you'll come across an area filled with ledges and another variation of the robot insect, a flying enemy that tackles you. Continue jumping until you reach the end of the room to a ladder. If you fall you'll land in some spikes, but strangely enough these don't kill you in one hit.
On the next floor down you'll see more of those armor machines and those green robots that latch onto you. Take 'em out as you go and climb down the ladder at the end and deal with the multiple variations to reach another robot insect. It's pretty much the same like the last one except the gravity (due to magnetic force) will change how you jump. Continue on after defeating it and take care of the variations to reach another giant robot guarding the boss door and destroy it as mentioned before and get ready for the boss.
BOSS: MORPH MOTH
Attacks: Silk Shot, Trash Cycle, Garbage Toss, Dust, Energy Beam
Weakness: Speed Burner
Morth Moth is one of the most unique bosses in the MM Universe. It starts off as a cocoon, and after it takes enough damage it transforms into a full grown moth. It was the actually the second boss ever created (the first being Gemini Man from MM3) to have such a notable two-part battle.
With Speed Burner:
If you have the Speed Burner, the first part is fun. Morph Moth will start off as a cocoon and will rock back n' forth to perform the "Garbage Toss", which takes a while to do. While he's rocking, hit him with the Burner and watch him get caught ablaze and once he returns to normal repeat the process. Dodge the falling garbage for he won't stop rocking and when he drops down he'll spin around throwing even more junk around, so wall-kick to avoid it. When he gets back into the middle he'll do the Trash Cycle, by spinning various garbage in a circle. Hit him a few more times and the ceiling will explode and stage two will begin.
When he transforms, dash underneath him whenever he drops his dust and hit him with the Speed Burner. Rinse and repeat to finish him off.
With the X-Buster:
The beginning of the fight is more or less the same with the X-Buster, as the Speed Burner doesn't cancel any of Moth's moves either, so basically you go through the same mayhem as before except it lasts a bit longer. The real difference is after Moth transforms into... well, a moth, as the attacks become apparent. Continue to dash under him whenever he zooms overhead sprinkling his Dust, and move out of the way when he fires his Energy Beam--he can target you. Be careful when he gets close to the ground and don't forget that there is no ceiling during the second half, so you can literally wall-kick as far as you want if you need to dodge.
-Central Computer Stage
Boss: Magna Centipede
Neato. If you check the background when you first enter you'll notice that it's the same place where the X-Hunters where were talking to one another. Anyways, this stage is fairly complicated, so I'll try my best to navigate it.
At the beginning you'll notice a few enemies which put up an energy-like barrier, but it can be destroyed with a charge shot. While it's recovering from losing it's shield, pellet it with a couple of shots to destroy it. Then you'll stumble upon a couple of search lights. WHATEVER YOU DO, DO NOT TOUCH THEM. If you do, enemies will drop down from the ceiling, and will attack, and some floors will fall apart. Instead, hide in the shadows of platforms, and when you pass all three search lights, wall-kick up one of the enemies that activates when your caught (They'll be safe while they're not active) to find another Heart Container.
Move forward after collecting the item to stumble upon a giant block that will move forward when you get near it, followed by other falling blocks. The only blocks that can be destroyed are the ones of the pink kind. After a couple more of these, you'll come across some blocks that will try and crush you. Charge you buster and destroy the incoming pink one to stop the barrage. Move forward and dodge some more blocks to reach the mini-boss.
MINI-BOSS: HOLOGRAPHIC SWORD
Attacks: Stab, Spin
You'll come across a computer that produces a hologram of a sword that can actually hurt you. But you can also hurt it! It's weak spot is the handle, so focus all attacks there. It's starts off slow, but it speeds up after a while, and eventually it will try and attack you by either stabbing you or spinning into you. Not the hardest thing in the world, but be careful.
After dealing with the sword, you'll come to a drop filled with wall climbing enemies, those flying enemies from the intro stage, and more search lights. Strangely enough, the lights this time do... Nothing! Yep, strange. Continue on down and you'll see some falling liquid blocks that form into ledges on contact with the ground, but explode if you attack them before hand. You'll also encounter different radars that try and scan you for a short while. If a X-Hunter is in this stage, dash to the far side to the metal door before it gets block off by the falling blocks. After your done, continue on up to deal with another mini-boss.
MINI-BOSS: Raider Killer
Attacks: Fireball, Tri-ray, High Fireball, Attack Shield
This mini-boss's difficulty varies depending on how many of those radars scanned you in the previous room. The less, the easier. When it does a fireball, jump over it. When it does the the tri-ray, dash between the gaps. A high fireball you should dash under, and the attack shield you need a lot of room to destroy before it hits you. Luckily, if you got hit by none of the radars, it will only know the first two...
After the fight an alarm will go off (the same kind as the ones when getting caught by the search lights) and different parts of the floor will give way, and security cubes will drop and attack, as well as those giant blocks in an attempt to knock you into the abyss. Race through it and enter the boss door at the end.
BOSS: MAGNA CENTIPEDE
Attacks: Magnet Mines, Teleportation, Shurikens, Magnetic Feet, Poison Tail
Weakness: Silk Shot.
The coolest Maverick evah! Just kidding, for all you Magma Dragoon fans out there. ^_^; Magna Centipede is equivalent to Shadow Man of the Classic series, so in other words he uses ninjustu to help him. This fight is rather difficult without the weakness, so let's hope you rookies weren't stupid enough to take him on first...
With Silk Shot:
When the match first starts, run up to Magna and belt him with the Silk Shot. The hit will cause his tail to fall off, and removes two of his most deadly attacks, the Magnet Mine and the Poison Tail. After recovering, Magna will teleport: Right next to you, in the same spot, or on the ceiling. Sometimes Magna will trick you into wasting weapon energy by appearing and immediately disappearing, so wait for a couple of seconds when he reappears to decide whether or not to attack. When he's on level with you it's easy to him, but on the ceiling is a bit trickier. You can either wait for him to swoop down and hit him, or fire in the exact opposite direction and let the attack split and hit him. While he's on the ceiling, be careful, he may throw some shurikens at you.
This fight was simple, no? Then try and fight him without the weakness...
With the X-Buster:
Oy. Hard. Very, very hard. To start off, blast him with charge shots as often as possible because it won't be like that for very long. While on the ceiling he'll throw shurikens, and also use the Magnet Mines, which will circle around you for a while and then stop and slam together in an attempt to hurt you, and it's difficult to avoid. But that's only half of it. He'll eventually start to use his magnetic powers to pull you close to him, and if you get caught, he'll stab you with his tail and poison you, which will reduce your strength. The first shot may do nothing, but the more shots, the worse you're off. Loss in charging, slowed movement, inability to jump, one shot every few seconds, and being unable to dash. Plus you take damage from it!
What I suggest is that whenever he does that move, dash for your life until he stops. And hit him with a charge shot whenever he's level with you. You'll probably need a sub-tank for this one.
-Energen Mines Stage
Boss: Crystal Snail
Ooh... Shiny. Also very slippery, with many spike pits and giant objects that try and crush you in the process. So this stage is definitely not a walk in the park at all.
Go forward and deal with Bat Bones and step on the slant to fly down it and into a Ride Armor! >:) Walk forward and take care of the dome-shaped enemies as they fire out a variation of the Gemini Laser (Anyone else noticing the similarities between MM3?). And drop down and break the ice using the armors power. Since you can't fit through thanks to a block of unbreakable ice, hop out and you'll stumble upon a giant green crystal which will slide towards you. Run back and hop in the hole, and when the crystal is gone, go back to your Ride Armor since the crystal was destroyed by the green one.
Keep on moving forward (the armor your in is invincible to spikes) and if you have an X-Hunter in this stage go ahead and hop on the ledge where the dome was and dash-jump (with the ride armor), and land on the long, crystal-like ledge. Walk on over and destory some of the light-green crystal using the armor and dash-jump to the newly formed hallway. Since the walls are smoothed over you'll have to jump from platform to platform to the door. After you take on whichever Hunter was there, avoid the spikes afterwards to end up back where you were.
If you still have the Ride Armor, smash the crystal and collect the extra-life and hop out, and destroy the dome robot. Continue up and to the right to reach a mini-boss.
MINI-BOSS: TRAPPED ROBOT
Attacks: Gemini Laser Variation
This robot is encased in crystal, but you can still damage it. It will send out a small flying probe that fires out Gemini Laser variations, and gets quite annoying after a while, but you are unable to destroy it. After taking a few charge shots, the crystal will crack, and the robot will send out another probe to to pick up the pace. A few more shots and this boss will go crashing, probes and all.
After the battle, move forward and you'll reach another slant which will send you speeding on down. Quickly climb out once you reach the end, since a giant crystal is chasing right after you. Then you'll find a giant chasm, with a few Bat Bones hanging from the ceiling. Instead of trying to make the jump across, cling to the wall and slide on down, upon finding a small hallway filled with domes. At the very end you'll stumble upon another Armor Capsule! You'll get the Helmet Upgrade, along with a tracker that will reveal hidden panels. No big deal, since they're quite obvious anyways.
Go back to the chasm, and dash-jump to the other side. You should make it. Continue on to find more Bat Bones and unbreakable crystal, and then find another giant crystal that will slide down threatening to crush you. Run back on down, and climb up the ladder (taking care of more Bat Bones) and continue back to where the crystal was. Continue moving to find another giant crystal. Move out of the way for it, then move up, destroy the dome and continue through the boss door.
BOSS: CRYSTAL SNAIL
Attacks: Crystal Hunter, Time Slow, Tackle
Weakness: Magnet Mines
For a snail this guy is rather fast. He's impenetrable as long as he's in his shell, but other than that he's really fun to fight (with the weakness, as usual of course).
With Magnet Mine:
Hit him with it as soon as the battle starts, and then attach a mine to the wall right behind you. Crystal Snail will fly out of his shell and hit the wall, taking additional damage from the mine attached to it. He'll then try and dash back into his shell. Before he gets the chance, dash into it instead to knock it away, and pelt him with the another magnet. Repeat.
With the X-Buster:
Coming soon!
-Desert Base Stage
Boss: Overdrive Ostrich.
I hate this level. It's fun in it's own right, but it's the very cause for all of the damn stupid backtracking (well, most of it anyways). But nonetheless I shall do my best. It's pretty straight forward anyways.
Walk forward to see a pillar that can be knocked down with a few shots from your buster, and then take care of the Road Hog that tries to plow into you. You'll then find a scorpion-like 'bot that attacks with it's claws and tail (note that its tail is destroyable but not necessary in destroying it). If an X-Hunter is in this stage use the Spin Wheel on the dirt behind the scorpion (use your helmet if you have trouble finding it).
Going down the ladder right behind the scorpion, take care of the Road Hog's while climbing down a few more to reach a bike, like the one you had at the beginning of the intro stage. Hop on and go full speed and let loose some firepower to knock down a near by bridge so you don't destroy your ride, then slow down so you hit the machine creating that artificial sand storm. Go back and hop on the bike, and continue going as fast as possible while blowing everything up. If you managed to make it into the building keeping your bike intact, good for you. If not, try again.
Go through the building with your bike and land on the spike pit (your invincible on your bike) and grab the heart container, then TRY to prevent crashing into the wall and dying. Go down below the spikes and destroy the incoming scorpion 'bots and then dash-jump to the other side of a huge hole, and use the Spin Wheel to destroy the fake blocks to reveal... Another Armor Capsule! Dun, dun, dun! You'll get the the Leg Armor, which will allow you to dash in midair. Very useful.
Go down and take care of the last scorpion 'bot to reach the door that leads to a rocket. Hop on and watch as X automatically destroys it while it's taking off, and you'll land in Overdrive Ostrich's territory...
BOSS: OVERDRIVE OSTRICH
Attacks: Sonic Slicer, Charged Sonic Slicers, Running Kick, Background Drop
Weakness: Crystal Hunter
Overdrive has a very interesting arena, and he is well suited for it. It's impossible to run away from him, since he's the second fastest character in the game (the first being Agile, but we'll get to that later).
With Crystal Hunter:
Whenever you hit Overdrive with this, he'll momentarily freeze and then preform a Charged Sonic Slicer. If your on a hill of some sort, you can use the extra height to hit him again. A very simple strategy, just watch out if you resort to running away from him or when he starts the match off with a running kick.
With the X-Buster:
This time around you cannot fix Overdrive's attack pattern to constantly fire Charged Sonic Slicers. He will charge at you, try to kick you, and occasionally fire regular Sonic Slicers. Despite this, I feel that Overdrive isn't all that hard with the X-Buster. The key mostly lies in dodging his attacks, and that is by using the terrain to your advantage. When he is charging at you and you are standing on an upward slope, for example, do a dash jump over Overdrive. When he is performing a running kick and you are lying in a ditch, try to dash underneath him while he is in mid-air. And don't forget, if all else fails, just run away from him. Sure he will eventually catch up (He ALWAYS does), it may give you the chance to find a better place to position yourself.
-Weather Control Stage
Boss: Wire Sponge
Final stage for the eight Maverick Leaders. Rookies should start this stage off if they want to go easy at first and don't mind boring fights. Meh, whatever. This level has a few spike traps, and the weather frequently changes. You can change the weather using Splash Bubble, Speed Burner, and Crystal Hunter on orbs strewn throughout the stage. Take notice that in humid weather the frogs explode, and that in rainy weather the satellite dishes become dormant.
Right off the bat, wall-kick the wall right behind you to find a Heart Container. Move forward after and take care of some robotic frogs. The weather should start to get very humid. satellite-like enemies will come out of the ground, charge, and fire at you, so destroy them before they get the chance to do so.
Continue moving and it will begin to rain, pushing you ever so back. Hop onto the moving platform and dash-jump to the left to hit the wall where the orb was under and climb up, avoiding the frog. Dash-jump to the platform to the right and continue moving taking out frogs and collect the extra-life and sub-tank at the end. Then hop off the platform and go to an elevator shaft.
If an X-Hunter is in this stage, drop down as low as you can in the shaft and enter the hidden hallway with a door. Continue on if not and ride an elevator to the top while taking out enemies, and hop off the moment you're able to do so, since there are spikes at the top of the shaft. The weather should become humid again, and these flying robots carrying green orbs will come and drop them, creating electric vines. Take care of them an move on as the weather starts to rain and the same robots begin dropping blue orbs with enemies that latch onto your head and conduct lightning come out. Dodge the spikes and the enemies, and you'll come to a building.
Enter the building, and take out the screwdriver enemies, and then the scorpion 'bot at the end and enter the door.
BOSS: WIRE SPONGE
Attacks: Strike Chain, Vine Shield, Vine Creator, Lightning Dance
Weakness: Sonic Slicer
The first official crappy boss ever! Nothing much else to say here.
With Sonic Slicer:
This match is so much fun with the Slicer. ^_^ Every time you hit him while he's in midair, he goes flying back, and his shield does nothing. The only time he becomes invincible is when he's performing a Lightning Dance. Take care of the little vines he produces as well. After you defeat him, watch the silly little animation and laugh at him.
With the X-Buster:
Yeah, so it has been recommended by most people to take Wire on first, rather than my selection of Wheel. Well, that's fine, if you don't mind boring fights. Using the X-Buster only, you will be incapable of hurting him while he spins his chain in front of him, which he likes to do a lot, or when performing his Lightning Bolt attack. You can only hit him when he is attached to the ceiling, when he is throwing his chain at you, or when he is jumping forward. Watch out for the little plants he flings at you by destroying them, and be careful when he is throwing a chain at you, for if he is close enough he will attach himself to the wall and pull himself toward it. Other than that, he's nothing--he isn't hard, just really boring.
If you've been following my guide, then good job, you've defeated all eight of the Mavericks!
I shall now do the X-Hunter optional battles here. Note that the X-Hunters do have weaknesses, but they do not affect their fighting skills, only take off more damage than usual.
X-HUNTER: AGILE
Attacks: Beam Dash, Beam Wave, Upperbeam Cut
Weakness: Magnet Mines
Item: Zero Part #3
Agile is a speedy fellow who uses a beam saber to fight. His strategy is simple, but deadly. When you're on the opposite side of the room, Agile will either dash while wildly swinging his saber, or swing his saber at you, creating a huge wave of energy. If you're on the wall, he'll jump up and use his "Beam Wave" on you. Drop down when he does it and fire a charge shot/Magnet Mines at him. If your above him via the wall he will do an uppercut using his saber. Dodge his attacks and always fire when he does his Beam Wave in the air to win.
X-HUNTER: VIOLEN
Attacks: Mace Ball, Vertical Fire, Horizontal Fire
Weakness: Splash Bubble
Item: Zero Part #2
Violen is all muscle, and he can definitely put the hurt on you if you're not careful. He'll use his Mace Ball the most often, and can be very brutal, but luckily it goes in simple patterns. When he puts his hand out, get out of the way for his Horizontal Fire, and when jumps and clings onto the ceiling be prepared for the Vertical Fire. To win, go all out and hold nothing back. Don't be afraid to use a sub-tank if you need to.
X-HUNTER: SERGES
Attacks: Land Mine, Forcefield, Rapid Fire
Weakness: Sonic Slicer
Item: Zero Part #1
Serges is uses a forcefield to protect himself, dropping land mines as he goes around on a movable platform. Though the shield is annoying, it will eventually mess up and one of your attacks are bound to hit. When it does, Serges will fall backward, then jump high into the air while firing energy-based shots around and around and around. Take the opportunity to jump on the platform (be careful, the sides cause damage!) or attack him while he's jumping about. Repeat to win.
NOTE: I should take note that sometimes when Serges throws his cape off at the beginning of the fight it may actually hurt you! I don't really get it either, but for people who are looking to S-Rank bosses you might wanna be careful.
-Backtracking
Boss: None
All right, before we go to the X-Hunters stage, let's backtrack to get all of the power ups we missed since we were unable to get them. You may want to use your helmet for help. Let's start with Wheel Gator.
Go to Wheel Gator's stage, and when you reach the part where you drop down to those movable platforms right before the two Disks Boys near the beginning, wall-kick up the right wall and air-dash past a small indention and go up to reach the final armor capsule. You'll get the Arm Upgrade, which will allow you to charge the X-Buster even more so and allow you to do a double shot and also charge any weapon. Then go to the part after exiting the ride armor and jump on the closest platform. Charge the Speed Burner, then air-dash to the left and let go the weapon to increase your dash to reach another heart container. Exit the stage right after.
Go to Morph Moth's stage. When you reach the Disk Boy at the entrance to the building, knock away his shield and then blast him with the Crystal Hunter to freeze him. Jump on top of him, then air-dash towards the building and wall-kick up the entrance to find another heart container at the top of the building. Exit.
Go to Crystal Snail's stage. Once you get into the Ride Armor, climb back up to the slippery slope (which won't be slippery in the armor, mind you) and fall down the gap and land on the platform at the bottom. Still in the armor, switch to the Strike Chain and dash-jump at the very edge and when you begin to fall jump out of the armor and use the Chain to latch yourself onto the ledge that will appear to find another heart container (this may take several tries). Once again exit.
Go to Magna Centipede's stage. Right before the Holographic Sword, you should notice the giant, gaping whole in the ground. Jump on to the ledge before it, switch to the Speed Burner, charge it, and then use an air-dash/Speed Burner combo to hit a wall that you can wall-kick on to find another Sub-Tank. Exit...
Go to Bubble Crab's stage. When you reach the biggest platform underwater, charge up the Bubble Splash to create a shield, and jump so go to the very top of the of the water level. You should see a Sub-Tank. Since you're using bubbles to make you jump higher, take another jump once at the top and grab the tank. Then go back to the part where the Fishmarine starts going down and look for a fake wall. Inside the small room us the Silk Shot and charge it up to bring Energy Refills toward, so you can fill up all four of your tanks. Then exit.
Now you're ready to take on the X-Hunters!
-X-Hunter Stage
Boss: Violen
This is it. The X-Hunters base. The same robots who were meant to destroy you, revive Zero for there evil purposes and attacked (if you failed collecting all the parts) Dr. Cain's lab. Are you going to let them get away with this? No, of course not!
Go to the right. You'll reach a drop off with a few Bat Bones and flying enemies. You'll then see a long row of spikes with those stupid screwdriver enemies and a floating platform. Hop on it and take out those screwdrivers! At the end you'll see a Disk Boy, but it's nothing you can't handle, right?
You'll then be forced to go up, where you'll see that same robot from the intro level that tried to smash you between those walls! Take him out again. Continue on, and you'll see some of those shield enemies from Magna Centipede's level, destroy them, then you'll come across another of those wall smashing enemies, this time with the walls being broken, making it harder to get through. I suggest the right side will be easiest. Continue on, and you'll find a split in the path. Go down. Take out the incoming Road Hog's, then get the extra-life then climb up the ladder to see multiple wall climbers on platforms and walls alike. Take them out as you go up.
Once at the top, you'll see another wall smasher, with another broken path. Take the left hand side this time for less difficulty. Then you'll see some scorpion 'bots, take them out respectively tand you'll find another wall smasher, but with straight walls. Go up and find another shield enemy followed by a scorpion 'bot.
BOSS: VIOLEN
Attacks: Mace Ball, Vertical Fire, Horizontal Fire, Disappearing Blocks
Weakness: Splash Bubble
Violen's back, and is he ever the same. He uses the same attacks, but now with a few twists. To start off, disappearing blocks will appear and reappear in the stage, making his mace among other weapons go in different directions, making it easier or harder to dodge. Secondly, he is impervious to all damage now unless he's attacking. Use the same strategy for the X-Hunter battles to win.
-X-Hunter Stage
Boss: Serges
Stage two. Woohoo. Also a very short level. Be sure to have brought with you enough energy to use the Giga Crush, you'll need it.
To start off, drop down the hole. You'll land in water, and encounter some robotic fish along the way. At the of the hallway, you'll see some wall climbers, so take them out and move up to encounter a few more, along with some of those armored guys back in Morph Moth's stage. Go back down to land in water, then wall-kick repeatedly on the moving platforms to prevent falling in the spikes.
After exiting the water you'll see a passage going up lined with spikes and those gas cans from Flame Stag's level, except now they're on fire 24/7. Clamber onto the platform in the middle, and if you can stand to get hit, just ride it to the very top. If not, hang on the sides by wall-kicking. After that you'll notice a few Bat Bones and long row of spikes again. You can either freeze the Bat's or destroy them and Air Dash across. After that go down and you'll come across a guard blocking the door to the boss. Eliminate it and continue.
BOSS: SERGES
Attacks: Plasma Cannon (x4), Fourway Fire, Platform Destroyer
Weakness: Giga Crush, Sonic Slicer
Unlike Violen, Serges will resort to completely new tactics to try and stop you. He'll ride in a giant machine with nothing but spikes at the bottom of the arena with four mere platforms to use to fight with. This is going to be a tough one...
When you start this match off, hop onto the second platform on the left, then, if were smart enough to have enough energy for the Giga Crush, use it. You'll destroy all of Serges' giant cannons with one shot, and he'll only destroy one platform, opposed to two. If you don't have it, then dodge the various shots and pump them with some blaster shots.
After the cannons are gone, the wall shielding Serges will collapse. Hop off the platforms to the little ledge beneath Serges and repeatedly charge and fire the Sonic Slicer at him. Just remember to dodge his four-way fire and you should win...
-X-Hunter Stage
Boss: Agile
You'll start off in a hallway with a few holes and those annoying green, jumping insects with a Disk Boy. Take them out respectively and climb up the ladder. You'll then see one of those movable platforms that change direction whenever you jump on the button in the middle. Go up using this, and then continue on to the right once more. Don't bother collecting the extra-life past the double row of spikes, it's really not worth it.
Now going up again, you'll see another movable platform. This one is a tad bit trickier, so I'll guide you through it.
Step on the platform twice to go up, then press the button to go left, then down, then right and up and ride it to the next level, then before you hit the ceiling go left then down, right and up and go through the gap between the platforms. Destroy the tank enemies, and go left, down, right, and then up on the left-hand side to hit a small hole with a tank that will almost immediately attack you. Now, go and move right all the way to the wall, then down, left, then quickly hit the button so the platform goes up before it goes under the ledge, then press right to prevent getting slammed into the wall, then down and quickly left and up to get out of this aggravating maze.
Now, if you've collected all the items, have maxed out your sub-tanks and lives including your energy bar and you want the "ultimate" power, continue reading. If not, or your just lazy, skip this.
You may have noticed a ladder that goes up, but you can't reach it. So what gives? Lure one of the Bat Bones that you see after the movable platform maze and when it gets close enough, pelt it with the Crystal Hunter and use it a platform to climb upward. You'll see a Disk Boy, so destroy it WITHOUT getting hit. You need full health, remember? Grab the extra-life right after you destroy the 'Boy, so if you mess up you can try as many times as you like. Then move onward to see a whole mess of spikes with a lone Bat Bone flying towards you. Freeze it with the Hunter, and use it along with the air dash to reach two armored guys. Quickly destroy them before they collide with you, and air dash past the double spikes. Now you'll come across the hard part: spikes along the floors and walls. Get out your Speed Burner, charge it, and air dash past the first half of spikes. When you drop down to the second level, release the Speed Burner to get to the other side and land safely to the very small platform, then slide down the wall at the bottom the left. Keep on sliding, until you "go through" the wall, and stumble upon another armor capsule! Then listen to a very freaked out Dr. Light. If you can't see the capsule, you didn't collect all of the items, or you weren't completely maxed out. Enter the capsule if you did, and get the Dragon Fist aka the Shoriyuken, single handedly the most powerful weapon in the game. It's equivalent to X1's Haoduken, which means it can kill every boss (except the final one) with one single hit! Just remember you need to perform a certain combination of buttons to pull it off, as well as 100% full health. Now drop down the shaft to continue on.
If you didn't go this way, drop down to deal with small spike traps and those annoying flying enemies from the Dinosaur Tank, and another of those giant door guarding robots, except it's not guarding anything. Take it out, and go down to deal with a Disk Boy. Continue on, and you'll have to cross through long rows of spike traps with those green wasp-like enemies again, and either Speed Burn, Crystal Hunt, or tackle into them to cross (Dragon Fist collectors will drop off somewhere around here). At the end, you'll reach the boss (finally).
BOSS: AGILE
Attacks: Spike Drop, Electric Current, Missile Barrage
Weakness: Magnet Mine, Dragon Fist
Agile will confront you in a strange, floating contraption. He will occasionally move back and fourth, sending out missils and a giant bomb that's fairly simple to avoid. When he pounds the wall and glows red he'll release electricity through the floor and will drop a row of spikes on top of you (if you get hit, don't worry. You won't die unless you're low on health). Fire Magnet Mines upward to hit him and charge the mines and blast him continually with it's slow speed...
...Or you can be cheap and use the Dragon Fist, killing him instantly. >:)
As Agile dies, he mentions something about his master. Well, you've gone this far... might as well go the whole way!
-X-Hunter Stage
Boss: None (sorta)
You'll appear in a passage going up, so wall-kick to continue moving. You'll then reach two teleporters, one which is all ready destroyed so take the one on the right.
You'll appear in a fairly large room filled with eight teleporters and six platforms, four of which carry small energy refills. The eight teleporters, though, contain the eight previous Maverick boss fights, so you better get ready! I shall make a (pathetic) diagram to point out which one leads to which:
Morph Moth Wheel Gator
Wire Sponge Overdrive Ostrich
Bubble Crab Crystal Snail
Flame Stag Magna Centipede
You can take on whoever you'd like since you have all of the boss weapons, but if you need help defeating them again refer back to their respective stages, since it would take too long to retype it all. Anyways, after you defeat all eight of the Maverick's again, you'll get a really, really, REALLY big surprise...
If you check out the X-Hunters base, you'll see it's in shambles. Now in order to complete the game, you can either click on the X-Hunters Stage, or go back to Magna Centipede's stage. For the sake of things actually making sense, we'll go back to Centipede.
-Final Stage
Boss: Zero (optional), Sigma, Neo Sigma
Old stage, different music... Doesn't it sound an awful like the intro stage music? That aside, this level is pretty similar as before, until you reach the place where you fight the Holographic Sword. That's when you stumble upon something big...
BOSS: ZERO
Attacks: Z-Buster, Z-Saber, Ground Quake
Weakness: Speed Burner, Dragon Fist
(Note that this fight will only happen if you did not collect all of Zero's parts)
Okay, most people recommend using the Speed Burner here, since it's the only weapon Zero can't block with his Z-Saber. When Zero attacks, he will either fire a double charge shot with his Z-Buster, followed with a wave of energy coming from his Z-Saber. It's insanely fast, so stick to the walls to avoid it. While hanging on the walls is nice, be careful of Zero's Ground Quake, as I like to call it. He punches the ground and the floor gets torn up, and debris flies and hits you. Before it gets the chance, air dash across to the other side of the room.
In order to beat Zero, do your best to dodge all of his attacks and attack him whenever possible. He's hard, and may take a sub-tank, but he's definitely not unbeatable. Or you can just use the Dragon Fist.
No matter what happens, you'll be forced to drop down this hole into a secret compartment of the stage, where you'll encounter the final boss in the game...
BOSS: SIGMA
Attacks: Claws, Electric Spark Revised, Charged Electric Spark Revised, Split Drop.
Weakness: Sonic Slicer, Dragon Fist
Sigma. He does a lot of ripoff moves. The first one he goes off and swipes you with his Wolverine-like claws and sends you flying into the wall and ceiling, and then jumps into the middle of the room and splits in two and disappears, then reappears and tries to land on you. He also does Spark Mandrill's (X1) Electric Spark technique, and also does the charged version.
When he does the Split Drop, dash out of the way, and jump onto the walls when he does the Charged Electric Spark Revised and the claws. When he does just the Electric Spark Revised, use the walls to your advantage. Or, once again, you can put an end to him with a well-placed Dragon Fist...
FINAL BOSS: NEO SIGMA
Attacks: Beam Energy, Enemy Creation, Head Lock
Weakness: Strike Chain, Dragon Fist
Another boss fight! And boy is this ever the intimidating one. The Dragon Fist, while still effective, doesn't kill the guy in one hit. He doesn't even get a life meter! Instead, the background will blur every time you inflict pain on him, and he'll change colors. Basically, cool colors mean he's at near full, and warm colors means he's almost empty.
This is it, so let's get ready...
Neo Sigma moves around in a basic pattern until the very end of the fight. Beam Energy, Enemy Creation, repeat. When he does Beam Energy, air dash above him to avoid damage and use the enemies he creates to your advantage by collecting any items they may drop. After he turns an orange-ish color he will attempt to trap you inside his skull. If you have enough energy left, go ahead and let him. You're free to still attack him while inside, and you'll do more damage than he can.
Attack whenever you can for this fight, but be sure to keep an eye on your energy. When you deliver the final blow, Sigma will have a nervous breakdown. So congratulations, you've beaten the game! So grab a coke, sit back and relax, and enjoy the credits--you deserve at least that much.
7.) Credits
I'd like to thank various people for help making this guide.
Capcom, for making such an awesome series, even if they mess up sometimes.
Nintendo, for bothering to put this game on their console.
The Sinister Six. If it wasn't for them, I might not have even made this.
Gauntlet. He put up MM3 and Battle Network guides up on his site, which motivated me to make this.
And lastly... Code: Island Attackers, since this whole guide is only going up there. Now shut up about it!
